Patron Saint of Ayurevda
No important information to follow but I want to test the process. I will go on record as loving kitchari, it’s very much akin to how I eat anyway. Susan, you’re right, the Vata mix is certainly nothing we’d call a tea but it’s far more pleasant than the Vata laxative haritaki.
Tomorrow – I smear myself with 7 oz of oil. Imagine.
Thanks for weighing in on the blog Dan & for testing the capabilities. Good luck tomorrow!
Oil is really not a very DP thing to do! Good for you!!
The VATA mix is foul…I put it on rice and couldn’t eat it…is there another way to injest it?
I got a bad headache the last two days…probably a coffee withdrawal….I will continue to do a little coffee each day to avoid that..I start the kitchari tonight;;;;have been eating strictly VATA foods the last three days and drinking the tea……I noticed that I got somewhat constipated which is VERY unusual for me……..probably because I am eating NO raw veggies? I did drink the laxative tea each night and, until today, no results…
Onward and upward!
Consipation: Sorry things are not going so well for you, David. Kitchari can be constipating…plus I told you by phone to take 1/2 tsp of the haritaki instead of 1 tsp. Today you can increase the dose of haritaki at night to 1.5 tsp until you become more regular, then back off again. Also, once you start the self-massage, focus on the abdomen and helping loosen things in the colon area with your fingertips thru the skin. Another question – are you adding your pinch of pink salt to your AM ghee? That may also help. Biggest suspect for your constipation though is NOT drinking coffee, which is laxative. Please consider drinking you normal coffee for this cleanse, this time. Maybe decrease it gradually going into the winter cleanse. Also, you don’t need a headache right now.
Vata Herbs Mix: The vata (or any) herb mix should not be taken in food – it needs to be steeped in warm water and taken AFTER meals 3X/day. If you need to enhance the taste, you can add an herbal tea that you enjoy (check the good-for-vata herbs on the Food Guidelines for Vata’s best tea choices). There are some roots from the dahamula in the mix that are not good to “eat” but their tea will be very helpful. So make a tea of the herb mix vs. eat it. You can either let the root bits sit at the bottom of the cup undrunk or strain the tea.
Let me know how it goes.
Another suggestion to consider in the note from our kitchari recipe:
Caution: Kitchari mono-diet can lead to constipation if taken exclusively for several days, as it is low in fiber. To ensure proper elimination, the following may prove helpful if taken once a day, away from kitchari meals: psyllium husks or seeds with water OR oat bran OR prune juice.
Good tips….thanks, Susan!
DP: I am surprised by how low my energy level is, mostly with physical activity. Is this to be expected? What was a long run is now a long slow walk.
Yes, this is completely normal. Your body is using all of its energy to flush toxins. That is why Ayurevda advises us to reduce our activity levels during PK. So, in reference to your comment, you should not be taking a “long run” right now – physically mentally or emotionally. Protect your body & mind as much as possible during PK from activity & stimulation.
I’m really impressed with your writing skills as well as with the layout on your weblog. Is this a paid theme or did you modify it yourself? Anyway keep up the excellent quality writing, it’s rare to see a nice blog like this one these days..
